This is a test for collecting toxic mould samples for mould laboratory
nonviable mould sampling analysis or viable mould sampling analysis. You
can also use this test to collect double samples for use in both mould
analysis methods!
Lift tape testing is an easy and effective way to test when you can see and touch or feel
[wearing rubber gloves] the mould growing on a wall or other surface, or you are concerned that
there might be (e.g. a stain on the wall or possible mould on an air duct grill). Areas you
might want to sample include any suspicious stains or color spots, areas of visible mould
growth, damp materials like wallboard, and\or maybe places that collect dust to see what has
fallen out of the air.

Viable Mould
Sampling |
|
-
Cut a three inch (3”) strip of one inch (1”) wide Scotch
tape or transparent tape and wearing your rubber gloves, press it on to the surface you
want to test.
-
Remove the tape from the surface your are testing.
-
Press the tape and the collected material onto the surface
of the nutrient agar in the mould test kit or petri dish. Do this gently and carefully;
leave the tape stuck on to the surface of the mould test kit.
-
Close the lid of the petri dish.
-
Seal the outer edge with tape and place it in a sealed
Ziploc bag.
-
You can then grow the mould test sample
for 5 to 7 days (or more) after which send it to the Mould Inspector
Laboratory for Lab Analysis and Identification with your
Mould Chain of Custody.

Sealing Mould Test Sample |
|
|
1. Immediately
after doing each test, completely seal the sample in the mould test kit by taping the entire
circular edge (where the mould culture plate and lid come together) with a black electrical
tape.
2. Place
each sealed mould test kit into a separate Ziploc bag with the corresponding label.
3.
When you send the samples for Mould Lab Analysis, using padded
shipping envelop is suggested to protect the mould test kit from breaking. |
